University of Petru Maior
Scholar Petru Maior (1760-1821) falls through his work in the fields of history, philosophy, linguistics, and education secular and Christian morality, no less, by the spiritual servant of the church, as one of the prominent figures of the current School of Enlightenment Transylvanian.
Petru Maior saw daylight in Targu Mures son of Archpriest George Maior, which in turn noble son of a small native of primary studies made at Capusul Târnăveni. După plain, where his father established as dean of Iclod, is a Roman Catholic secondary school in Targu Mures, between 1769-1772, the upper classes of the gymnasium at Balázsfalva between 1772-1774, 1774 College “De Propaganda Fide” in Rome, and then, from 1779 to 1780, attending of Canon Law of the University “Sancta Barbara” in Vienna, one of the important centers of European Enlightenment and Gallican.
For a quarter of a century, between 1785-1809, the dean of Reghinului, Petru Maior support, as ecclesiastical Romanian church and school, preparing and largely opera. In years 1790-1791 joins current national political which prepares and submits petition programmatic “Supplex Libellus Valachorum” (1791), one of the authors. Since 1809 as auditor of the printing Romanian Romanian section of the University of Buda, until the redemption of his death (14 February 1821), Petru Maior scored the most fertile period of his life, publishing most works.
The most important Peter Major’s Opera is “History of the early Romanians in Dachau” (1812), a scientific paper, made while social and political goals of the author’s age show the Roman origin of the Romanian people and continuity in this region.

No less important are the contributions of the scholar in the areas of spelling and language Romanian coming to complement and support the ideas in his historical work, opening new horizons for future research in the field of modern philology.
Impact on his approach historical era was particularly imposing opponents respect and enthusiasm about the younger generation of intellectuals who prepared and done Revolution of 1848. Under the sign of his ideas were formed and worked great scholars of the entire Romanian space.

University “Petru Maior” features a high quality teaching staff. Of the nearly 152 teachers, 75 have acquired a doctorate in science. Many of them are visiting professors from prestigious universities in Central and Western Europe. In recognition of the scientific work of teachers from “Petru Maior” is significant that in recent years, six of the teachers have been awarded the prize of the Romanian Academy. Also, many of whom work has been awarded by institutions in the country and abroad.
Targu Mures is one of the most beautiful cities in Romania. Based on agreements between the University “Petru Maior” and universities in Central and West many teachers in England, France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Hungary, support courses in “Petru Maior”.
