AIESEC STORIES

Before AIESEC I was just a Canadian Chemical Engineering student…

“Before AIESEC I was just a Canadian Chemical Engineering student who was not sure what he wanted to do. When I joined AIESEC at McGill University, I didn’t know what I was joining. I was active in over 10 clubs, mainly because I found classes too boring, and AIESEC seemed to be just another one to add to the list. I had a dream of what I wanted to be but I wasn’t sure how I could ever get there so I made sure to cover all the bases.

But within 6 months, AIESEC became the only club I was a part of. It became clear quickly that this organization was vastly more valuable than any of the other clubs I had joined on campus. This is because everyone in this organization is seeking to become a better version of themselves. A version that is more effective in their work, smoother in their interpersonal communication, more cognizant of subtle cultural nuances, and more capable to not just manage, but lead others. Everyone was striving to become a globally-minded leader, something I only wish I could aspire to. But AIESEC showed me that I could as well.

AIESEC provided me the opportunity to lead teams in Canada, India, and the USA in addition to traveling and connecting with youth in Kenya, Russia, Germany, Czech Republic, Turkey, and China. I’ve lead teams or organizations of 5, 10, 13, 65, and now 2000 people with budgets from $500 to $50,000 to $500,000. I always dreamed that after graduating I could become this type of leader but I didn’t have to wait until after University to become the globally minded leader I wanted to be. Because of this positive, supportive environment of growth, I could achieve this dream much sooner. The dream that I could be much more than just another University student; that I could be a traveled, experienced, and responsible young person; and that I could be a globally minded leader.

I am now a globally minded leader because I became an AIESECer.”
